Getting An Education In Lawn Care

There are many educational opportunities in the areas of gardening, lawn care, and landscaping.  Whether one is a college student or someone older looking to add to their knowledge, there are several opportunities for improvement.

College students or those getting ready to attend college will find that most schools offer a number of majors and classes that meet these horticultural interests.  Majors may include those like Landscaping, Horticulture, Botany, and Agronomy.  Classes will not only be directly related to these subjects, but may include those that might be indirectly related, such as soil sciences or environmental studies.  Classes about entomology, pesticides, and cropping systems might be pertinent as well.  The level of degrees available will vary depending on the school, but one may get anything from a certificate up to a doctorate in a gardening related subject.  Those not currently attending school can take just one or two classes to increase their knowledge if they would like.

College students are not the only ones who can find and benefit from further education in the subjects of landscaping and gardening.  State extension offices will have several resources for gardeners of all levels of experiences.  There may be night classes, seminars, demonstrations, and more available in the local community.  Adult education programs might have a landscaping or gardening class.  Home improvement businesses or greenhouses may hold special events in which they share knowledge, products, and ideas with the general public.  One can choose the level of education they would like to pursue, whether it be one event or a several month class.  These educational opportunities may cost money, but many are free or very cheap.

Skills in gardening, lawn care, and landscaping are practical and useful whether one is starting their own business or simply enjoys working in on their home gardening projects.
